What Is A Double Hung Window?
When you think about standard windows, you most likely think about single sash windows — which open on only one end. That is, the bottom sash raises, but the top one does not. Double hung windows offer much greater flexibility in how you open and close them. First, you can open either sash. You can raise and lower either the top or bottom sash. You can also vent either sash. Double hung windows are far more versatile and flexible than other window options.
When Are Double Hung Windows Appropriate?
Double hung windows are appropriate all the time. They deliver the same style and look as single sash windows, but you enjoy far more flexibility. Double sash windows will cost just a little bit more than single sash options, but that’s an investment that is often worth it for homeowners.
For example, double sash windows are far easier to clean than single sash windows, especially from the outside. This makes them a perfect fit for second floors where accessing a window’s exterior isn’t always easy. Ordering a new shower door was so easy! They sat down with us and listened to what we were looking for, showed us various options and we chose what we wanted. They measured our enclosure and then discussed pricing which was not bad for a custom door. We agreed, gave a deposit and they said they would call us when the door came in, which was expected to be in 2 to 4 weeks. Just had the door installed and it looks beautiful! Mike and Tyler did an excellent job with the installation as well as cleaning up after themselves. Very courteous and respectful of our surroundings. They also gave us a squeegee and glass cleaner. It was stress free from start to finish. We had others out that didn’t have any pictures of doors or options to show us, they wanted us to commit to a price without fully knowing what we were getting and give us a deposit! until the weather got too ugly. Came the next day and finished up. Removed boots when they had to work inside. Used a vacuum as they went, although I didn’t see any dirt or debris. The only thing is I could not talk them into washing the windows. Communication was good, when I needed to ask about the screens that came with the windows. They worked with me to correct the issue I had with the screens.

We had the 4 track vinyl window system installed in our breezeway. It will not only serve our outdoor needs but is BEAUTIFUL ! What a positive experience w/ the Garrety installers! Namely Nick and his crew. They worked through 20 degree days, snow, 30 mph winds and never missed a beat .The project took longer than expected and these fellas stayed til dark on the last day to complete. And going one step further, one of the fellas actually cleaned up our dirty downspout before replacing it so it would look nice against the new vinyl. Talk about customer service ! We are so pleased! Garrety called me back the same day I put in an online query, scheduled an appointment for a few days later, and the rep they sent out gave me a detailed, honest estimate with samples. He even called their supplier on site to check stock on the hardware. A few weeks later, I have a beautiful floor-to-ceiling glass enclosure around my shower. Mike F and Marc were on time, polite, and professional, and they finished the install in less than a day. Probably the most pain-free part of redoing our bathroom. Would definitely recommend.
